Book Excerpts . . .
If you are making an unscheduled career change, entering your first career opportunity or are uncomfortable with your overall skills in etiquette- look no further, my book is for you. For Just A Time As This is structured for easy reading and understanding of etiquette for use in life’s everyday encounters. It is an excellent reference full of easy-to-follow instructions, with diagrams and tips covering good manners necessary for conquering the challenges we encounter daily. Let’s look inside…
 Introductions
and Impressions
Walking into a meeting, introduction at a networking session, your first encounter in any situation — COUNT DOWN — seven seconds…. Those seven seconds are all it takes to form that all-important first impression. More than half of that time is based on appearance. Clothing sends a message about you, your profession, and your school or organization. The first encounter is crucial to the outcome of your presentation, whether it is your name, position, or the organization. From the time you enter the arena of interaction, the spotlight is focused on you. Use your seconds wisely and "outclass your competition."
Grooming Blunders
Refining the basic daily habits that give you a neat and tidy appearance is an essential part of your professional presence. You can be exceptionally well-dressed, but still make a less-than-powerful impression because of poor grooming.
~ Unmanaged facial hairs including the ears and nose.
~ Wearing inappropriate foundation garments with your outfit.
 Electronic
Messages
~ Your physical expressions will dictate your vocal expressions. Put a smile
in your voice.
~ Omit creative abbreviations: btw = by the way, g2go = got to go, ntl = nevertheless,
cwa = check with application, etc. This style should be limited to your personal
circle that speaks the same language.
Electronic Mail Faux Pas
~ Not checking your e-mail with the same regularity that you do your voice-mail
messages.
~ Labeling a message as “Urgent” so that the receiver will give it
priority unnecessarily.
~ Trying to be humorous in your messages when it could be misinterpreted as sarcasm.
Dining Image Plus
~ With the ever-changing definition of "excellence," we must heighten our knowledge of social skills and dining decorum. There is more to professional success than having a degree, knowing how to dress, and name-dropping.
~ Knowledge is security, and so is surveying your place setting and making the right selection of silverware. Knowing the how-to of dining will reduce frustration, allowing you to focus on the issues of importance.
~ These skills will distinguish you from the leaders and the followers. Properly used social graces will prepare you for your place in the “world puzzle,” thereby making life more enjoyable, affordable and available to you.
TOUCH OF WORD
There are NO provisions without Christ.
In our world today, sometimes we give the impression and some of us believe that we arrived at this place in time without the provision of the Lord Jesus Christ. In this section we will share the "spoken word" to help the reader understand that there are no provisions outside of Christ. Our dreams would never become a reality if it were not for His visible and invisible provisions. I trust that you will read this portion with a greater fervor than you did the rest of the material, for this is the lifeline to accomplishing your dreams, whether it is to become an ambassador to a nation or a friend to the friendless…the WORD is it.
Revival in the Storm…Going through Trouble
~ Don’t pout…shout! We already have the victory Psalm 138
~ Prayer is the greater power…cry out to God. He promised to hear and answer
us
~ See His mission above our mess. We must look to the God of the hill in times
like these
Freedom through Encouragement
~ May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. II Thessalonians
3:16.
Valuable Friendship
~ A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs
17:17.
~ A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all
things. Ecclesiastes 10:19. |
